Welcome Back Teachers
As teachers return from spring break to a very different education environment they left just a couple weeks ago, I thought it would be nice to say, ”You got this”.
Just like a house cat waking from its nap only to find the living room furniture rearranged — I understand just how unfamiliar this all must feel. Remember, unfamiliar is the operative word here as you’re about to do what many teachers already do around the world — distance learning. And while that may sound scary, or a lot more work, there are definitely some positive aspects that deserve highlighting.
To start us off, no more fighting with the printer and/or photocopier. Physical copies won’t help here so you just saved all the time you would have spent during recess, lunch, or prep! Speaking of recess and lunch, no more break monitor! All that time outside, dealing with conflicts around the swing set is now your own. And after breaks, no need to spend 10 minutes trying to calm everyone down so you can get started on the next learning module. Hair pulling, allergy monitoring, peers distracting and more, all gone!
In many respects, you no longer need to deal with the baggage that came with in-classroom teaching and you now get to focus on teaching itself. It might not be how you imagined it but this is an amazing opportunity to try something new & hone your craft.
Right out the gate, you will need to persevere through quite a bit of ambiguity but so is everyone else as they sit at home. Good luck!
